One year older and wiser too...

My sweet little boy has turned one year old...I CANNOT believe it, it feel like just a few weeks ago we were bringing home home from the hospital. Well we had a party for him(which i will blog about later when i find someone how to show me how to post multiple pictures with writing and stuff) it was fun plannig it. Yesterday I took him to his 1 year well baby check-up. He weighs 23 lbs 9 oz (57th percentile) and is 301/2 inches (67th percentile) i thought he'd be bigger than that, i thought he'd be closer to the 90th percentile for weight. 67th sounds about right for height though. at his appointment he had to get his 1 year shots, the nurse was TERRIBLE(it was a male nurse btw) normally the nurse gets all the shots set up then does them all in a row, bam, bam, bam, but this guy was rediculous. He would do one, set it down, take the cap off the next, do it and so on until he had all 4. Needless to say Mason screamed until that man left the room. Then Mason had to have blood drawn to test for heavy metals(becasue dad works construction) and for anemia. It had to be taken from his teeny, tiny vein. that means i had to pin him down while they did this. i think the pinning him down was what he hated most, it took 2 of us. they searched and searched back and forth between arms finally found one, or so they thought, stabbed him, didn't find it so they dug around in his little arm, couldn't find it so they then stabbed his other arm. once the blood started flowing he stopped crying, man that little guy is tough.
Here's a picture of him on his birthday!

Update

So I have been a total slacker, i started this blog to document all of Mason's accomplishments and milestones, he is truning 1 this month and, well, as you can see, i haven't documented ANY of his milestones. (sorry Mason) I was hoping to Print this out and have it as a "baby book" as i have yet to purchase one for him. That being said, i have nothing written down anywhere so i will try to guess before it gets too late and i really have no clue.

Hmmm...where to start?

First smile: he smiled in the hospital, i know what you're thinking, "it was just gas" don't burst my bubble, i believe he was socialy smiling at a very young age.

Rolled over: somewhere between 4 and 5 months. felt like forever. he also started sitting on his own really well at about that same time.

First tooth: 7 1/2 months, followed by tooth #2 about a month later. Still the only 2 teeth that have popped up. Though i "believe" he's ALWAYS teething, in which case he gets tylenol. he has to be with all that drool and crying and gnawing.

crawling: he was arming crawling for awhile and pulling himself up on furniture(i thought he'd skip real crawling) but he started to actually crawl when we bpught our first house and he had space to move around. 8 1/2 months.

first step: just after he started to really crawl. 8 1/2 months. silly boy, did it when mommy and daddy where out, Aunt Alicia wittnesses the first. he's been walking really well since about 9 months.

first word: Ball? that's ball as a question, not me guessing whether that was it or not. it was at about 10 months. we were at my parents and i asked him where the ball was he then put his arms out and looked around and said, "ball?"

first bloody nose: Today...i took him to the park and he saw a toy he was eager to get, tripped on the way to it and hit his face on a cement step surrounding the playground. Poor baby.

other fun facts about mason: He eats EVERYTHING, this boy is going to eat us out of house and home. He loves to wrestle with daddy and throw things down the stairs. his favorite pass time is sitting on mommys lap(i say that with a smile, haha) he also loves having books read to him, he will get one off the bookself and bring it to me.

Look what I can do!!!

What a week!! Mason has learned alot in the past few days. His new favorite thing: grab at those cute little feet(mostly when i'm changing his diaper) he actually found his feet awhile ago, but would just look at them and wiggle them. Now he will lift them and grab onto them, it's so cute. Also he has started to sit on his own, okay...okay not quite. He sits all by himself for awhile though and only if he wants to. Everything is if HE wants to, I'd be embaressed if anybody saw the things I do to try to get this little guy to crack a little giggle, than all of the sudden something that shouldn't be funny happens and out comes a giggle. I guess he's alot like mom and dad, hard to get a smile out of.
He had his 4 month check-up and vaccines. He is 16lbs 12oz and 26 1/4 inches. 75th percentile. I know, last week he was 17 something, but he was fully clothed at that time. he may have lost a couple ounces being sick and all, but the doctors not worried.
STILL has NOT rolled over. Come on Mason.

Sick lil guy

I buckled down and took Mason to the doctor yesterday. Turns out he has RSV, Respiratory syncytial virus infection. It's alot like the common cold and should clear up on it's own. Dr. said on the 4th day of illness the baby usually starts to get better or is hospitalized. He said Mason looks good and called him a happy wheezer. He was so active at the appointment laughing, talking, kicking, even rolled onto his side for the first time. The worst part of this whole thing is having to syringe his nose. I really like Mason's new doctor, he actually explained stuff to us. Mason had been on medication for acid reflux from a previous doctor, the new doctor said he doesn't like to medicate babies just for the heck of it so let's try to wean him. I like that. we actually have already weaned him i think, we were running low on medicine so we were rationing it, only giving him 1/2 a dose or only giving it to him when we thought he needed it. The doctor is leaving it up to me whether or not i want to keep giving it to him, all i have to do is email him and he'll send a prescription out. All in all, things should be getting better here very soon. oh by the way, at his appoinment Mason weighed 17lbs 6oz. my little hippo.

The 1st pa-tootie of many, but hopefully there's more Kuty to follow

What better way to start off a blog than to tell all about a sick baby...well, Mason is sick. It all started thursday night, what i thought was going to be just a regular ol' sleep through the night night turned into cough spells. No big deal for Mason though, he slept right through them, but he is STILL in the bassinet right next to my bed, so that means everytime he coughs I shoot straight up to check to make sure he's not choking. Anyway, morning comes around and my baby that usually lets me sleep 'til 10AM(i know, i'm VERY blessed) wakes up at 8AM and doesn't let me put him down for a minute. Have you ever blow dried your hair with a baby in the bjorn? not the funnest. i had made plans with Ericks mom, whom i've never met before, to go to lunch with her this day so i HAD to get ready. We went to lunch and Mason was fussy, fussy, fussy, i felt kinda bad, it was the first time she got to meet her grandson. All morning i was thinking maybe he had allergies as it was very windy the day before and the news was talking about how allergies were very bad this year. After lunch his dry cough turned into a "barking cough" with a fever. I called the advice nurse and she said there's really nothing you can do, just give him warm apple juice to sooth the cough. so, that's what we've been doing. by the way he LOVES apple juice. surprisingly he sleept VERY well friday night, 9:30-5:30-10:00. Saturday i took work off, Mason really loves his mommy so i wanted to be there for him. he did okay during the day but thenevening rolled around and it got pretty bad. I thought it might be croup so i steamed up the bathroom and sat in there for 10 minutes with him but it almost seemed to make it worse, so i took him outside in the cool air, maybe it would help his airways unswell, nothing was helping, he wasn't able to eat very well. at this point he was screaming, there was nothing i could do for him, yes i was in tears too, there's nothing worse than knowing your child is in pain and you can do nothing to make it go away. Erick gave him a blessing, imediately following i was able to get him to latch on well and he was able to eat and fall asleep. it was a tough night but we got through it. he was up every couple of hours for a couple of hours. he has been better today. except he lost his voice through all the coughing, it's sad but kinda cute at the same time. He's passed out at the moment and hopefully can get good rest tonight. i've talked to the advice nurse once a day, if it's not better tomorrow i'll take him to the dr. as the weekend will be over and the office will be open.

Addict...

Uh-oh, i've fallen once more...1st I joined myspace, then I "grew up" and got a facebook and now here we go again, something new to get addicted to. Oh well...I AM a stay at home mom, what better do i have to do with my time?
Well,I decided this would be a good way to keep track of Mason's accomplishments since i do NOT have a baby book for him. we'll see how good i am at actually writting on here. Oh you may get some stuff about Erick and I on here as well.
